Dori’s Story
My parents, Martin and Hedy Kunstmann, bought our property in 1967, 2 lots next to the State Access road, and built the A-frame house that Joe and I live in full time now.
After a lifetime of weekend visits, we became full timers in January 2023 in between snowstorms. What a challenge it was to find places in a small A-frame house to fit our 30+ years of belongings moved from a roomy Colonial in New Jersey! (Please don't ever ask to see the basement here!) We even moved our small flock of chickens, who had to spend several months living in the garage among boxes filled with our previous lives.
Our New Jersey hens now have their own home and yard behind ours, along with a Pennsylvania man to call their own, Uhtred the rooster (if you haven't seen him you've surely heard him in the early mornings, sorry!), and several younger, more productive sisters.
We finally bought our own requisite Duck Harbor pontoon boat this summer after experiencing some wonderful rides with Pat and Jim, and Lisa and Bill. Ours in the white one with the trout on the side; wave hello if you see us!
We are occasionally asked if we get lonely living here in the winter. The answer is always no. Of course we have each other and our dogs and chickens for cold-weather company, but the "loneliness" here in the winter is so soulfully beautiful and we wouldn't trade our winters here for anywhere else.
